Posted 11/15/19

On behalf of the Rialto Unified School District Board of Education, and Superintendent, Dr. Cuauhtémoc Avila, we are proud to congratulate Ms. Jessica Buckle, Carter High School teacher, for being selected as the 2019 “Outstanding History/Social Science Educator” by the Inland Empire Council for the Social Studies (IECSS). Ms. Buckle will be recognized at the Honoring Social Studies Educators of Excellence Annual Awards Dinner in Rancho Cucamonga on December 5, 2019, 6:00 p.m.

“Ms. Buckle is extremely dynamic in her approach to teaching,” said Dr. Greg Anderson, Principal of Carter High School. “She varies her instruction and keeps our students curious about history. She is very good at making history relevant and interesting to students. She infuses technology in her teaching – Ms. Buckle is at the forefront of education technology.”

IECSS, the group honoring Ms. Buckle, is a professional organization which serves social studies educators in San Bernardino, Riverside and parts of Los Angeles Counties. The organization aims to highlight, support, and create a strong network of social studies educators through meetings, conferences, awards recognitions and professional development.

“I feel very honored since this is only my second year at Carter, and fourth year, teaching, total,” replied Ms. Buckle in reaction to her academic honor. “Being recognized by my peers, and being given this award, really means a lot. I always see myself as a work in progress but it’s nice to feel valued. I definitely don’t think I will ever stop growing. My motto is: ‘if you are done learning you should retire.’ I just want to continue working, continue being the best teacher I can be for my students, and the best co-worker I can be for the amazing staff at Carter High School!”

Ms. Buckle was nominated by CHS Assistant Principal, Mrs. Natasha Harris-Dawson. “She does everything to create equity and access for all students, using technology, to provide different education mediums. Her classes participate in a variety of activities, including producing music videos and daily blogs,” stated Mrs. Dawson. “She brings education to life, where you don’t see it in a traditional classroom. She has always put her students’ needs first.”

RUSD officials will join Carter High School staff members in honoring Ms. Buckle at the IECSS’s Social Studies Educators of Excellence Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 5, 2019.

Congratulations, Ms. Buckle, with the tireless work you do for our students, you make the Rialto Unified School District very proud. You are most deserving!
