COVID-19 Update: Lifting Mask Mandate for PreK-12 (March 8, 2022)

Dear RUSD Families and Colleagues:

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) recently issued updated COVID-19 related guidance, which lifts the mask mandate in PreK-12 schools beginning Saturday, March 12, 2022. Rialto Unified School District will be on Spring Break from March 11-March 18, 2022. Effective Monday, March 21, 2022, when students and staff return from Spring Break, masks will no longer be required, but will be highly recommended. Anyone wishing to wear a mask may do so at his or her discretion. Masks will continue to be available upon request.

The following COVID-19 safety measures will be adjusted effective March 21, 2022:

  • Temperature checks will no longer be required
  • Plexiglass desk shields will be available upon request by parents
  • Parent volunteers will be permitted back on campus as long as they follow the District’s volunteer protocols
  • In-person meetings can be held at the facilitators’ discretion
  • Health questionnaires for staff will no longer be required

For now, vaccinations and testing requirements will remain for staff. The District is anticipating updated guidelines from the CDPH for visual and performing arts and athletics in the upcoming weeks.

This COVID-19 update will be shared on all our social media platforms and on our District’s website at www.rialtousd.org. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact RUSD Communication/Media Services at info@rialtousd.org or please call (909) 820-7700, ex. 2126.
