PBIS Handbook:
What is TFI?
-
At Rialto Middle School, we are committed to creating a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. To achieve this, we use the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI)—a tool designed to help schools assess and improve their **Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
What is the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI)?
The TFI is a self-assessment tool that helps schools evaluate how well they are implementing MTSS/PBIS practices. It is used to identify strengths and areas for growth in providing behavioral and academic support for students. The TFI measures three levels (or “tiers”) of support:1. Tier 1 – School-Wide Support 🏫
- Focuses on universal strategies to support all students.
- Includes school-wide expectations, positive reinforcement, and proactive behavior management.
- Example: Clear behavioral expectations are posted in classrooms, and teachers use positive reinforcement.2. Tier 2 – Targeted Support 🎯
- Provides additional interventions for students who need more help beyond Tier 1.
- Includes small-group interventions, mentorship programs, and behavioral check-ins.
- Example: A student struggling with classroom behavior may receive a daily behavior tracker with teacher feedback.3. Tier 3 – Intensive Support 💬
- Focuses on individualized support for students with significant needs.
- Involves personalized interventions, specialized instruction, and collaboration with counselors and families.
- Example: A student with ongoing behavior challenges may receive one-on-one counseling and a behavior intervention plan. Why is the TFI Important?
- It helps the school identify areas of improvement in student support systems.
- It ensures that resources and interventions are used effectively to support student success.
- It guides data-driven decision-making, ensuring all students receive the right level of support.Interpreting the Results
After completing the TFI assessment, our school team reviews the results to determine:
✅ What we are doing well (e.g., strong school-wide expectations).
🔍 Areas that need improvement (e.g., more staff training on interventions).
📊 Action steps to enhance student support at every tier. The TFI is not just a measurement tool—it is a roadmap for continuous improvement. By using this data, we can ensure every student at Rialto Middle School has the support they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
If you have any questions about the Tiered Fidelity Inventory or how it helps our students, please feel free to contact our school administration. Together, we can build a stronger and more inclusive learning environment! 💡📚

Awards & Recognitions
-
2023 - Gold Level Status
Gold Level is earned for implementing Tier 1 AND Tier 2 or 3 at 70% or higher fidelity. Students receive proactive and preventative supports through Tier 1 systems. Tier 2 and 3 systems provide a greater level of support for student behavior.
-
2021 & 2022 - Silver Level Status
Silver (Proficient) level schools must meet all the characteristics of Bronze level schools and implement with a higher level of fidelity. These schools also implement Tier II and/or Tier III supports as needed. Tier I, II and/or III supports are provided through a data-based problem solving process within existing team structures. These schools can produce evidence of advanced tiers of PBIS implementation as a result of data-based decision making (pbisapps.org). Silver is earned for achieving at least 70% on one or more Tiers.
-
2020 - Community Cares Recognition
The Community Cares Award recipients went above and beyond to ensure that students and families were supported and engaged during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students and staff have demonstrated tremendous resiliency and dedication to promote positive school culture within a virtual environment.
