    Dr. Cuauhtémoc Avila, RUSD Superintendent

It is with much excitement that I announce that we are taking precautionary steps to getting closer to welcoming back our wonderful students and staff for in-person instruction.

On Monday, March 15, 2021, the Rialto Unified School District Board of Education took action to approve the return of athletic programs, effective April 5, 2021, provided the District remains in the Red Tier. Last March the COVID-19 pandemic roared into our lives, causing much unanticipated disruption to our daily routines and grief resulting from the loss of loved ones. Yet with conviction and determination, we have adjusted to the challenging circumstances and have become more informed and resilient along the way.

I commend you for your patience as together we await a better tomorrow. While patience is a virtue, adversity can be an incubator for creativity and excellence. Such has been the case in our District, as manifested in the excellence in teaching and learning that many teachers, students, support staff, and parents have demonstrated during this past year. This has led to many accomplishments, recognitions, and awards for students and staff members.

Although the threat and impact of COVID-19 have lessened significantly in our region, we are not completely out of harm’s way. Independent of tentative scientific assurances and contradictory political perspectives, our District remains committed to protecting the health and safety of students, staff members, and families. Accordingly, our District will remain on Bridge Academy for the remainder of the current school year. As of now, the District plans to transition to in-person instruction at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year (August 2021) through a hybrid model, and transition to full-day in-person instruction soon thereafter. Bridge Academy/Independent Study will be available to students who prefer to continue their education using a virtual platform.

Our mission is to ensure every student experiences personal and career fulfillment — a commitment that can only be accomplished in a safe learning environment. The District will continue to make decisions in the best interest of students, as staff members prepare for their safe return to the classroom.

    Respectfully,
    Cuauhtémoc Avila, E.D.,
    Rialto Unified School District Superintendent
