Dear Rialto Unified School District Parents/Guardians:
As you may now know, our schools in the Rialto Unified School District will be physically closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. The decision to close schools was strictly based on the ongoing threat to the health and safety of students, staff, and families in our District community, presented by the pandemic COVID -19. Nonetheless, while schools will be closed during this period, instruction will continue, via Distance Learning (online technology), with adjustments made, for our students with special needs.
Staff has, gracefully, adjusted to the closure of schools and transition to Distance Learning, and is working with great empathy to address the challenges that these new circumstances have produced for students and their families. I know this is a difficult time for you, as parents. But I am confident the unity and vitality of our District community will give us the necessary strength, so that together, we overcome this temporary, but complex, reality that affects us in so many ways.
In the meantime, I ask that you reflect on what our new reality means to you and use it as a teachable moment with your child/children. The impact of the COVID -19 will perhaps be the biggest lesson students will experience in their young lifetime. And with your guidance, your child/children can also reflect on the importance of family, kindness, and self-discipline, especially during events that disrupt our daily routines and bring so much uncertainty to our personal lives. Also, encourage your child/children to remain engaged in their education by completing their assignments online, as their academic learning is a focal point of their development. And please continue to visit the Rialto USD webpage for ongoing updates on school closures, instruction, services, and other relevant information.
For those parents with seniors in high school, I understand the heartbreak and disappointment that comes with the cancellation of senior year activities, such as prom, senior awards and the graduation ceremony. Please know that the District is exploring all possibilities to have some form of graduation ceremony once the State and Federal officials lift all restrictions on mass gatherings.
I thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as the District continues to provide your child/children learning opportunities during this unprecedented experience.
