  • Need a Work Permit? 

    Please go to the Career Center(Located in the Counseling Area) Monday - Thursday during your lunch ONLY.


    6 Steps students must follow to receive a work permit:

    • Student must be enrolled in school

    • Student must attend school regularly (Attendance will be thoroughly checked. Students must have no more than 5 absences in the quarter)

    • Student must maintain a GPA of 2.0 overall (Permits will be revoked if your overall GPA falls under!)

    • No D's or F's in the previous semester

    • Student may not be suspended or expelled (Permits will be revoked-If standard is not met)

    • Student must obtain a Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor form (Form B1-1) *Find below via procedures*

    • Student must submit the completed Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor Form to the Career Center before school, during your lunch only.


    To obtain a Work Permit, students must complete the following steps:

    1.) Obtain and complete a “Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor and Request for a Work Permit” (CDE Form B1-1) & the Rialto HS Work Permit Request Letter (Student must be signed into their student email when accessing both forms) at: Required Work Permit Docs *Both documents must be printed and completely filled out-legibly in black or blue ink only*

    2.) Bring your completed “Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor and Request for a Work Permit” (CDE Form B1-1) to the College & Career Center (M-F 8:10am-4:30pm) and drop it off to Ms. Serena. Ms. Serena will then contact you via your RHS email once it is ready for pick up. (No need to follow up with emails; Students will receive contact when the permit is ready)

    *FORMS ARE TURNED IN ONLY AFTER A JOB IS OFFERED- VERIFY YOUR ELIGIBILITY BEFORE JOB SEEKING*

    3.) Turnaround time for eligible permits is within 48-72 hours. Please be sure to plan accordingly.

    *If not in office, please hold on to your forms until I am back in office. DO NOT leave them outside of my office. I will not process permits left outside my office*


    Information students/employers will need to include on the Statement of Intent to employ a minor form:

    • The student’s name, address, phone number, birth date and social security number

    • The employer’s business name, address, phone number, and supervisor name

    • The type of work the student will perform

    • The maximum number of hours per day and per week the student will be expected to work for the employer

    • The student's, parent’s and the employer’s signature are on the form. The work permit CANNOT be processed if it is missing any signatures.

    • The person issuing the work permit will email/ call you when it is completed. The student applying needs to come in to pick up the work permit as a student signature is needed. If you are renewing a work permit please do not wait until the last minute to renew.

    • Please be sure to fill out the form in black or blue ink only.

    • INCOMPLETE applications will not be processed.

    PLEASE BE SURE BOTH FORMS ARE BROUGHT IN COMPLETED AT THE TIME OF REQUEST.


    1.) If your work permit has expired or is soon to expire, please contact me via email for a renewal request. *It is the students responsibility to request a renewal in a timely manner* (The week of the expiration)! Permits are NOT given the same day.)

    2.) In your email request: You MUST confirm your home address & employer name/address

    3.) If at any point your employment status changes you must let Ms. Serena know ASAP. A new "Statement of Intent to Employ A Minor-Form B1-1" is needed if you obtain an entirely new job or switch locations.


    Minors aged 15 days to 18 years employed in the entertainment industry must have a permit to work, and employers must have a permit to employ, both permits being issued by the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement. These permits are also required for minors making phonographic recordings or who are employed as advertising or photographic models. Permits are required even when the entertainment is noncommercial in nature. There is no fee to obtain an entertainment work permit. The application for permission to work in the entertainment industry must be filled out completely and mailed, along with any required documents and a pre-addressed, stamped envelope, to any office of the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement.     **PERMIT ELIGIBILITY REMAINS THE SAME-ALL STUDENTS MUST BE ELIGIBLE FOR A PERMIT AT ALL TIMES**

     

    Do teenage actors have to attend school?

    Yes. If a performer is under 18 years and unable to attend his or her regular school, the employer must provide a studio teacher to teach during school days. In addition, the studio teacher is present on the set with minors on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and during vacations. The studio teacher, in addition to teaching, has the responsibility for attending to the health, safety, and morals of minors under 16 years of age while the minors are employed by the entertainment industry. The studio teacher may refuse to allow the use of a minor on a set or location, if, in the judgment of the studio teacher, conditions are such as to present a danger to the health, safety, or morals of the minor
