Social Media Policy & Guidelines
-
The Rialto Unified School District realizes that a major component of the 21st Century learning process is adapting to the changing methods of communication. The importance of teachers, students, and parents engaging, collaborating, learning, and sharing in these digital environments are all a part of the 21st Century learning experience. To this aim, Rialto Unified School District has developed the following guidelines to provide direction for instructional employees, students, and the school district community when participating in online social media activities.

District Social Media Protocols
The Rialto Unified School District upholds its social media protocols with a direction to clearly connect our students, families, staff, and education community with needed information. We responsibly utilize our District's social media platforms to share timely updates, highlight student achievements, and promote School Site/District programs, initiatives and events. During a crisis, the Communications Team will work with safety officers and site administration to alert and inform about important developments. The purpose of our protocols are to ensure to our education community that our District's online posts or voice broadcast information are relevant, accurate, and always strategically aligned with our educational values to inform, alert, and promote.

Social Media Guidelines
As a District-approved social media administrator, you are, by extension, representing Rialto Unified School District. Social media users need to be aware of the laws, liabilities, and guidelines associated with such platforms. These guidelines apply to students and staff who make use of social media for educational and work-related purposes and shall be adhered to as outlined in the Rialto Unified School District’s Acceptable Use of Technology Policy.
Additionally, social media platforms have terms and conditions, separate from the Rialto Unified School District, that users must follow to use these platforms. Please make the time to read, understand and follow those rules accordingly.
Snapchat/Tik Tok social media platforms or functions of social media platforms that allow users to send temporary still or moving images are not authorized.
Currently, the only District-approved social media platforms are X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, Peachjar and LinkedIn. Additionally, ParentSquare is used to reach ALL families and staff Districtwide with information (English and Spanish) such as informational fliers and voice broadcasts.
Any district (school or support site) administrator-user who may be found to have violated the terms and conditions outlined and established will be asked to remove their profile.
For further clarification or to report any discrepancies and/or issues with the district-handled social media platforms, don't hesitate to contact Communication/Media Services Agent Syeda Jafri at 909.820.7700, ext. 2126 or 2123, or email sjafri@rialtousd.org.
